Online Maps & Map Generators

More than once there has been arguments over the exact positioning of something in a room the DM has sketched out; scale is off, the Goblet of Player Awesomeness was 10' further than anyone (but the DM) thought, etc. Plus, it grinds the game to a halt every time you have to draw out an area.
Below are some great solutions to these situations. Whether you reveal the map piecemeal as the party progresses or have the entire thing showing at once both scenarios are optimal, especially as compared to the sample experiences we have all encountered above. The best part is not only are the maps more detailed than what most of us could accomplish on our own, but they are little to no money!
These three items will let you design and create maps from scratch. They all have the ability to not only create the rooms/areas, but also fill it up with assets and decorations.

This is THE world map generator to use in my opinion. Not only will it create entire continents with cities and roads, you can change map styles, rename locations, and even move things around.
This site takes tile morphs and stitches them together using map pieces contributed from various cartographers.
Although the encounters themselves generated are outdated (1e) in this map generator, the maps themselves are worth checking out as they blend cave and dungeon walls seemlessly.

Probably the most extensive resource sites in this list as a whole, it is a pure treasure trove of generators divided up by games & editions along with several databases of D&D information.
